The Beginning

After many google search’s on “what makes a good first blog post,” it seems that google doesn’t have all of the answers. So, I've decided that in this first post I’m going to introduce myself, tell you a little bit about our independent furniture business and what I’m going to be rambling on about for the foreseeable future.

First of all, Hello and Welcome to my blog. My name is Vicky and I’m the co-owner and upholsterer at Auburn Fox.

So here we go, I’m the ginger one and here’s the answers to a couple of questions I always get asked.

1. The first thing people notice is always my hair. Yes this is my hair, it’s all attached to my head and it’s not extensions but... psst, technically I’m not a real ginger.

2. Trust me, I wish I was the age people think I am. People always say I don’t look old enough to have two children, a 10 year old daughter and an 8 year old son. I’m a lot older than I look (nearly 30).

And that actually concludes the questions people ask me. (and my hair).

As you can probably tell I’m very nervous about writing and people reading my words. Maybe it’s because I’m dyslexic and writing has never been my strong point; or maybe it’s because... nope definitely the dyslexia.

Anyway, in a nut shell Auburn Fox was born in the back garden, then moved to a friends shed and within 6weeks we had our own workshop.

We started by making shelves and other items out of pallets but we quickly discovered that so was everyone else and there was no way we could find our own identity in an already saturated market. (Even if we did do it better) That being said, even with us both working our bottoms off, we didn’t have enough time to fulfil all of the orders. A nice problem to have but a problem all the same! We often had to work until 3am and would be back in the workshop at 9am. We sat down one day because we realised that if we wanted to continue, things would have to change.

So that’s how Auburn Fox became what it is today. We aim to bring designer furniture back down to earth by finding luxurious, quality products but at affordable prices.

According to google I should be keeping this blog short and sweet. (I’m 5ft and take 2 sugars, does that count?)

Over the next few months I’ll be posting blogs on everything from interior design, colour schemes, products, business updates to general chats about creative and inspirational ideas. Please do get in touch if you have any comments (good or bad eek), if you have any questions or suggestions about what you’d like me to write about I’d love to hear from you.

By creating this blog I hope that whoever follows will be able to pick up ideas, some inspiration, or at the very least just have a giggle.

Vicky x
